"Don’t even think about hiding behind your girlfriend. We will find you.”

-- Anthony Giordano, founder and designer, State Scare Haunted Attraction

State Scare is the brainchild of special effects artist Anthony Giordano, one of the East Coast’s premier special effects talents, and founder of ScarePro Productions.

Anthony’s haunted attraction starts with terrifying back stories, to mentally engage visitors in an experience that will haunt them well beyond their visit. Anthony carefully selects actors who are skilled at identifying a visitor’s biggest fears; his gruesomely realistic make-up brings the demonic beings up close and personal. Combined with strong visuals – such as one-of-a-kind hand-made props, effects and carefully selected antiques – visitors stay captivated through room after room of interactive terror.

Anthony’s “movie set” feel to his haunted attractions emanates from 15 years of experience in the entertainment industry.

Anthony, a New Jersey native, was born in Bergen County and has a degree in Industrial Design. At the early age of 5, Anthony’s interest for haunted attractions developed. Throughout his youth, at the age of 17 his love for Halloween became a reality when he was asked to create a Haunted Fundraiser for a local Boys & Girls Club.

His first production job was in the picture car business, supplying and modifying cars to the film industry. He soon transitioned into makeup, special effects and lighting, and spent several months on the road as a tour manager for national musical acts.

Soon after the tour, he moved to Los Angeles, where he was a prop fabrication supervisor on The Last Samarai, in charge of crafting weapons for the film. He also worked on such films as Spiderman 2 and Scooby Doo Part 2, as well as set fabrications for Disneyland. While in LA, Anthony also created training suits for NASA.

Moving back to the New York area to be closer to his family, he expanded his career further at Saturday Night Live, where he was a special effects artist and prop fabricator. He also worked on Broadway productions such as Young Frankenstein, Tarzan and Shrek the Musical.

More recently, Anthony was a robotics technician for the forthcoming film, Robot and Frank – starring Frank Langella, Susan Sarandon and Liv Tyler. The film, due out August 2012, won an Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the 2012 Sundance Festival.

Anthony has also done considerable effects and makeup work in the music industry. His credits include Metallica, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Johnny Cash, David Bowie, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey and Korn. This year, Anthony provided special effects makeup for the Metallica Orion Festival in Atlantic City, which attracted over 70,000 people who witnessed Anthony’s demonic actors first hand. In 2012, Anthony was also an organizer of the International Makeup Trade Show (IMATS), the biggest makeup convention on the East Coast, attracting over 10,000 people.

Despite his work with celebrities in LA and New York, Anthony remains a down-to-earth guy from Bergen County, and is honored to bring his world-class special effects experience to make Halloween a truly terrifying and fun experience for those who might be a little too old for trick or treating!
